About Us
DeadPixelTest.org is a free set of browser-based tools for checking the health of a screen. There is nothing to install, nothing to sign up for, and nothing to pay: you open a page, your display fills with a solid colour, and you look for the pixels that do not behave like their neighbours.
We have been running since 2019, and the site has grown from a single full-screen colour test into a small collection of diagnostic tools, repair utilities and reference guides used by people checking a new monitor, inspecting a second-hand laptop, or deciding whether a warranty claim is worth making.
What we do
Dead and stuck pixels are easy to miss and easy to misidentify. A pixel that stays black might be dead, or it might simply be showing black because that is what the image called for. A bright dot that never changes colour might be stuck rather than dead, and a stuck pixel can sometimes be revived. Our tools are built to make that distinction visible without any technical knowledge.
Every test runs entirely in your browser. Nothing about your screen is uploaded, and the tests work the same way on a phone, a tablet, a laptop or a desktop monitor.
Our tools
- Dead Pixel Test — the main test: cycle your screen through solid colours and inspect it for dead, stuck or hot pixels.
- Dead Pixel Fixer — a flashing-colour utility that can sometimes revive a stuck pixel by rapidly changing the sub-pixel values.
- Screen Contrast Test — check whether your display separates near-black and near-white shades properly.
- Screen Resolution Test — confirm the resolution your screen is actually running at.
- Dead pixel test videos — full-screen test videos in the correct aspect ratio for your display, including 16:9, 16:10, 21:9 and 4:3.
- Dead pixel fix videos — the same idea for repair: extended flashing-colour videos you can leave running on a stuck pixel.
Single-colour test screens
If you prefer to control the test yourself, each colour is available as its own full-screen page:
- Black — the best background for spotting stuck and hot pixels.
- White — reveals dead pixels and dust trapped under the panel.
- Red, Green and Blue — isolate a single sub-pixel channel.
- Yellow, Pink and Light blue — useful for catching partially failed sub-pixels.

Visitors can submit the outcome of their test, and we aggregate those anonymous results into per-manufacturer statistics. They are not a laboratory study, but they are a large and growing sample of real screens in real use:

Privacy and how the site is funded
DeadPixelTest.org is free to use and supported by advertising. We keep the data we collect to a minimum: anonymised traffic statistics through a self-hosted analytics instance, and the test results people choose to submit. None of it identifies an individual user.
